July 2014
Summer is upon us here in Baja and the bite is hotter than ever. Water temps in the mid 80's bring all species. I am not sure if we have ever seen such beautiful blue water. We found 87 degree water in mid-July with at least 100' visibility.
The Blue Marlin are officially here. We have caught three of them in the mid-July. All three are in the 250-300 lb range. We raised a few other Blues on the lures and had one explode on our favorite lure (purple) that was in the 450 lb range. You never know what will happen when fishing Cabo waters in the summer. Check out this video link below to see an approx. 300 lb Blue Marlin on the leader before release. You will also see my deckhand "tag" the fish with a Billfish Foundation tag prior to release. We have close to 1,000 billfish tagged and released on the Bad Medicine over the years.
There are lots of Sailfish and Striped Marlin also. We are catching them on trolled Ballyhoo as well as live bait dropped back in the lures. 3-4 shots per day is the norm. Wahoo are also mixed in there and the fleet is seeing them most days as well.
The Yellowfin Tuna are also officially here for their summer/fall run. Schools are found most every day now between 20-35 miles out. We got five tuna over 80 lbs and also landed this 157 lb beauty. Lots of fresh sushi. Don't forget to bring your coolers!
The Mullet are spawning now and the Roosterfish are on the beaches. For those that target them, now is PRIME time. We tried for only a couple hours in mid-July and caught and released 6 Roosters in the 15-30 lb range; really a blast on light tackle or fly rod.
Get booked and we look forward to serving you! Reserve your fishing adventure with our cordial staff at info@badmedicinesportfishing.com or 605-929-4280. Thanks and look forward to getting you on the water!
